White Water Rafting

Yangshuo now has 2 locations where you can go white water rafting. Both locations work the same way. You take a 2 person raft with no paddles or instructor and just bump your way down the small waterway to the bottom. This is a lot of fun on a hot day

How it works

You buy your ticket (150 Yuan) in a travel agency in Yangshuo. The ticket price includes the return bus transfer from Yangshuo to the rafting location. On arrival you can out your bag in a storage locker (10 Yuan). The complex does have basic toilet and shower facilities

Next you get on a bus to the top of the hill to the starting point. Here you need to find a life jacket that fits you, along with a crash helmet (trying to find one that may actually help in the event of an accident is like finding a needle in a hay stack) and elbow and knee protectors

You then join the queue and wait for a 2 person raft to become available. Jump on and wait until everyone else has a raft. The gate is then released and you play dodgems all the way down. You will get very wet and should have lots of fun

There are somewhat official people taking photos of you as you go down some of the rapids and they are very happy to sell them to you at the end of the day

Where To Go Rafting

Longjing River

The Longjing River white water rafting is located just outside of Xingping. This is the original location for white water rafting here in the Yangshuo region and in our humble opinion also the most fun. The location for the rafting is in a disused hydroelectric complex. There are several reservoirs which fill up with water and then get released along with all the people in their 2 person rafts. In this location, they do have self bailing rafts which drain all the water that would otherwise fill up and slow down the raft

9 Horse Fresco Hill

This location is located not far from the 9 horse fresco hill on the Li River and does not have as many or as big a drop as the Longjing rafting. They also do not have any of the self bailing rafts, so you do spend too much time getting the water out of your raft
