Moon Hill

Moon Hill

One of Yangshuo's most visited sight, this karst peak obtains its name from a large round hole in the middle of the mountain.

Moon hill may be climbed to the top for views of the surrounding area. The cost of the entrance is15 Yuan. You can walk up to the hole section or you can continue right to the top for great views of the local area. Beware that many ladies will follow you to try to persuade you to buy water or postcards from them.

Moon hill is usually part of day's sightseeing.

Normally you ride a bicycle through smaller villages to get to Moon hill. There are several ways to get to Moon Hill.

The original tourist way is called, "To Moon Hill the local way". This ride is nice but it is now crowded with locals selling postcards, back rubbers, tacky souvenirs or you may get a local dressed up to look like a farmer but they are just posing to try to get you to take a photo of them for some money. Some locals put coloured ribbons on water buffalos horns to also try to get you to take photos for money. To avoid most of this, we recommend that you do the bike ride late in the afternoon as many have gone home by then.

Another bike ride that will take you to moon hill is the "new local way". This ride is a bit longer but there are no people selling you anything along the way. This is where you get to see rural life for real.

If you do not have the energy for a bike ride, you can hire a motorised rickshaw to take you there. You need to negotiate the price with the driver of the rickshaw. The price will depend on the length of time you want to have access to the rickshaw.
